The Wedding Registry – A Lovely Custom
Invited guests are repeatedly faced with the question: what do you give the bridal couple? What do they need for married life and what should it cost? Industry has also given this some thought and has presented the “wedding registry”.

But what exactly is a “wedding registry”?
The wedding registry is also referred to by the word “wedding list”. This is an offering from shops and websites for bridal couples and their guests. The bridal couple indicates which gift wishes it has, and the “wedding registry” precisely coordinates the gifts from relatives, friends and acquaintances. From a list, you select the gift that the bridal couple is to receive, pay for the item, and it then disappears from the list immediately. This guarantees that only items the couple does not yet have remain.

Where does the term “wedding registry” come from?
Traditionally, the wedding couple were brought gifts that they needed for their future life together. However, since nowadays the bridal couple has surely already set up a household, sometimes even a double one, one wonders what is there left to give? That is what the department store Marshall Field's in Chicago wondered too, which introduced the wedding registry for the first time in 1924. In 1993 the model was presented online for the first time. From then on, the wishes of the bridal couple could also be accessed online.

The two types of “wedding registry”
The traditional wedding registry is still offered in specialist shops. There you can inspect the goods in person and take and pay for the gift from a table that the bridal couple is to receive. The virtual wedding registry represents the modern variant of the traditional wedding registry. You will find it on various websites where the bridal couple has put together its wishes online. Here you buy the product and have it sent to you by post.
