Team Building in Mallorca – A Process for Increasing the Effectiveness of Work Groups

All too often, team building is one of those vague, overused terms that managers bring into play as a cure-all for the sluggish performance of a work unit. The growing popularity and application of team building in Mallorca goes hand in hand with the increasing perception of work as the result of teams of workers rather than as isolated tasks on an assembly line.

Field research findings, such as those conducted by the American Productivity & Quality Center as part of its cross-organisational field research into improving productivity among employees, clearly show how important effective team structures are to the overall effectiveness of the performance of knowledge and service workers.

Building a team requires a great deal more effort than simply recognising the interdependence of workers and work units. Rather, it requires several carefully managed steps and is a continuous, cyclical process.

Solve internal problems with a Team Building in Mallorca

A team building in Mallorca gives the members of a work group the opportunity to observe and analyse behaviours and activities that impair their effectiveness, and to develop and implement courses of action that overcome recurring problems.

While the actual purpose of a team building in Mallorca is to develop a more efficient work group, the specific objectives of the process depend largely on the assessment of the information gathered in the initial data-collection phase.

As a rule, team building attempts to solve at least one of the following three problems:

1) A lack of clear goals and expected performance outcomes

Interviews with members of work groups frequently reveal that their performance is generally driven by their individual (and often conflicting) performance goals. In this situation, the team building model can be geared towards establishing overall goals for the work group that affect both the individual and the group-specific efforts and behaviours, and ultimately influence the performance outcomes at both the individual and the group level.

2) Interpersonal conflict and mistrust

A lack of trust, support and communication not only slows down a group's day-to-day work, but also stands in the way of resolving conflicts that naturally arise when the group makes decisions about its future endeavours. One way to overcome this is to focus on the work problems and on improving the interpersonal skills the team needs in order to work interdependently and effectively at accomplishing the task. In other words, the interpersonal data are derived from the work context itself and not from assessments relating to individual personalities within the group. It is a joint effort to identify mutual needs and desired outcomes … a win-win approach.

3) A lack of clear roles and leadership

It is obvious that duplicated work leads to a suboptimal level of productivity. If, however, initial conversations with the members of the work unit point to confusion about the distribution of roles, the questions that arise can go far beyond task-specific problems. They can raise questions about who leads the group, who feels authorised to act, which sources of power are used, and which interpersonal and intergroup relationships underlie the group's effectiveness. When these questions arise, the team building model uses group sessions to discuss and clarify the members' roles and responsibilities – both the prescribed and the voluntary ones.

This is why a team building in Mallorca can be a good complement to your incentive trips.
