What are “Save the Date” cards?

You already know the date, but not all the details are settled yet and it is really far too early to send out invitations.
These cards are meant to ensure that your wedding guests learn the wedding date in good time and keep the day of the wedding free, before they receive the actual wedding invitation.

“Save the date” means: You are invited, details to follow.

With a “Save the date” card you can make sure, even before the wedding invitation, that your guests keep the date free. In addition, this notice sets the theme for the wedding and lets the guests know what to expect at the celebrations.

Many couples take the opportunity to present witty and original Save the Date cards before the rather refined and formal wedding invitation.

How about, for example, a photo puzzle that the wedding guests have to put together themselves? Or individually printed beer mats? Magnets or stickers printed with the wedding date and a picture of the couple are also a clever way to inform the guests – and will certainly survive longer in their home and memory than a hand-scribbled piece of paper with the wedding date.
