On 4 October 1913, Mallorca's first electric tram line, between Sóller and the Port of Sóller, was inaugurated.
Construction of the Sóller tram began after the inauguration of the railway line from Palma to Sóller. An outstanding feature is the iron bridge over the Torrent Major, built by Maquinista Terrestre y Marítima.
Originally, the tram had a power station at Sóller station. The station was powered by a 65-hp explosion engine working with a Siemens-Schuckert dynamo, which supplied a continuous 600-volt current.
